About Cleansers

Gentle Cleanser for Dry, Sensitive, and Eczema-Prone Skin

If your face feels tight, squeaky, or stripped after washing, your cleanser is removing barrier lipids along with the dirt. That tight feeling is barrier damage, not cleanliness, and it is why dryness returns within hours no matter how good the moisturizer that follows is.

The Zerafite Soothing and Calming Creamy Cleanser ($30, 6 oz) is a dermatologist-developed cream cleanser for dry, sensitive, and eczema-prone skin. It uses coconut-derived cleansing agents rather than sulfates, and it is the only Zerafite cleanser that replenishes lipids while it washes, using Maltese Cross Technology to deposit ceramides back onto the skin during cleansing. Centella asiatica and madecassoside calm reactive skin. It is classified as non-foaming but lathers gently from a pea-sized amount.

Dr. Leslie Baumann recommends it for dry skin types with an impaired barrier, and notes it also works as a shaving cream for face, body, and legs to prevent shaving irritation.

Use morning and evening on wet skin, massage in circles, rinse with warm water, then follow with the appropriate Zerafite moisturizer.

Common questions

Is this cleanser good for rosacea or sensitive skin? Yes. It is formulated for sensitive, reactive skin and is free of sulfates and harsh surfactants. Customers with rosacea report it does not cause the burning that other cleansers do.

Will it strip my skin barrier? No, it is designed to do the opposite. It deposits ceramides and soothing lipids onto skin while cleansing, so skin is left soft rather than tight.

Can I use it if I have acne-prone skin? Yes. It is non-comedogenic, and Dr. Baumann recommends it for skin irritated by acne medications such as tretinoin and benzoyl peroxide.
